Excited ahead of a FWD Champions Day reunion with champion Golden Sixty on 28 April, Vincent Ho
gained vital confidence
and fitness with his first double in almost three months at Sha Tin on Sunday.
Sidelined
after a fall on 24 January, Ho returned to race riding at Happy Valley on Wednesday and,
following a couple of
luckless rides, was elated after successfully joining forces with long-time ally Francis Lui
aboard Baby Crystal in the
Class 3 Dongsinan Handicap (1000m) and Holy Lake in the Class 3 Dongcheng District Handicap
(1600m).
Determined to rebuild the momentum that delivered 25 wins before he was injured,
Ho's focus immediately shifted to
Golden Sixty's pursuit of a record-extending fourth HK$22 million G1 FWD Champions Mile (1600m)
victory in two weeks.
"It's great to be back. It's been three months and I've slowly been
building my confidence back up," Ho, a four-time
winner of the Tony Cruz Award as Hong Kong's leading home-grown jockey, said.
Country Championships-winning jockey Kayla Nisbet has made the decision to hang up the saddle
less than a month after
her finest moment on a racetrack.
Nisbet, 29, will retire from riding early next month to begin the next phase of her career as a
presenter and form
analyst for Sky Racing in Southern NSW and Canberra.
The country hoop enjoyed the biggest
moment of her career on day one of The Championships when she propelled Asgarda to
a surprise victory in the $1 million Country Championships Final (1400m) at Royal
Randwick.
She will call time on her riding career after piloting Asgarda one final time
on Wagga Gold Cup race day on May 2.
"It was my dream growing up to be a jockey, and I am
really proud of what I achieved in my professional career riding,
although it's now time for me to look ahead at the next chapter," Nisbet said.
Nisbet
currently sits 11 victories shy of 600 winners for the riding career and is expected to ride at
several meetings
before beginning her new role on May 6.
Pierre Ng is looking to up the ante in his bid to win a maiden Hong Kong trainers' championship
when he heads to Happy
Valley tomorrow night armed with eight chances across the nine-race fixture.
Ng led by 16
wins at Christmas, but now his margin is five (55-50) as a rampaging Francis Lui surged to a
half-century
with a treble at Sha Tin on Sunday.
"They're chasing hard – it is what it is. We'll just
keep going and hopefully we can get a few more winners, I think we
have done a very good job this season," Ng said.
Ng's entries for the midweek program are
Island Surprise, Medic Elite, Team Happy, Dragon Star, Captain Win, Ka Ying
Cheer, Excel Wongchoy and Quantum Patch.
The handler has booked Zac Purton for Dragon
Star in the Class 4 Siu Ma Shan Handicap (1800m), while Hugh Bowman
partners Ka Ying Cheer in the Class 4 Mount Butler Handicap (1200m) and Quantum Patch in the
Class 3 Magazine Gap
Handicap (1650m).
